Greetings 6th District Democrats:

As you are all no doubt aware, the Michigan Democratic Party’s 2007 Spring Convention will be held on February 24, 2007 at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan.  The 6th Congressional District Caucus will be called to order at 1:00 p.m. in Room W2-66 on that day. The main purpose of the District Caucus is to elect the new leadership team of the District Party. Positions to be elected are as follows:

District Chair, Vice-Chair(s), Secretary, Treasurer, Members of the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee, as well as, Members of the 6th District Executive Committee.

As is required by the MDP, proportional voting will be used for all of the elections mentioned above. Secret ballots are unacceptable and will not be employed.

I have attached a copy of the Caucus Agenda, which explains the new allocation of proportional votes, and the new allocation of State Central Delegates, both of which, I am pleased to announce, have been increased by the MDP for our District based upon our voting performance in the 2006 General Election.

At their County Conventions this weekend, the County Parties should ascertain which of their members are interested in serving on any of the three MDP Convention Committees. The 6th District is allowed to appoint one male and one female member, as well as, one male and one female alternate member to the Resolutions Committee, Rules Committee, and the Credentials Committee. Once each County Chair forwards the names of their members interested in attending to me, I will make assignments to the committees on the forms provided to me by the MDP. I will attempt to meet all requests, but obviously, with so few appointments to be made from the district, some people who wish to attend may not be able to do so.  I apologize in advance. The committees will meet as follows:

Resolutions- Tuesday-Wednesday (2/20-2/21) 7 pm @ MDP HQ Lansing

Credentials- Thursday (2/22) 6 pm @ MDP HQ Lansing

Rules- Thursday (2/22 7pm at MDP HQ-Lansing

Finally, I ask that you forward this message and the attached agenda to other interested parties, especially new members of your county leadership teams whose email addresses I simply do not have if you do not see them in the “to” line above.

I have enjoyed being your Chair for the last four years, and although I know that we can do much better, we have come a long way in unifying our region. To you, the committed Democrats of Southwest Michigan, goes all of the credit. I look forward to seeing you all in Detroit, and to “passing the gavel” to a new leader ready to take us into the all-important 2008 election cycle.

With Kind Regards,

Gary C. Giguere, Jr.

Chair, MDP 6th Congressional District
